STRESS AND FITNESS
This research involves investigation of behavioral flexibility and endocrine mechanisms of stress regulation and energy expenditure in nonhuman primates. We have conducted studies in free-ranging Japanese macaques, with the aim to identify environmental and social factors influencing the stress response, as well as the energetic costs related with reproduction and environmental changes.
EVOLUTIONARY ENDOCRINOLOGY
This research focuses on understanding how physiological mechanisms have changed in primate evolution, primarily by exploring hormones as mediators of behavior and life history traits, and by investigating neuroendocrinology of development.
PRIMATE WELFARE AND CONSERVATION
This research involves the assessment of anthropogenic effects on primate populations and monitoring primate welfare and fitness in situ and ex situ by noninvasive techniques.
